Job Summary:
Under limited supervision
of the Lead Director, Public Relations, the Assistant Director, Public
Relations manages and executes public relations initiatives and related
events for the national office and local Clubs as it relates to the
Torch Club partnership and others as assigned. Responsibilities
include providing on-going support of the program/partnership to local
Boys & Girls Clubs, the national organization and the funder in
the areas of public relations. This
position is currently funded through various
funding sources; continuation of the position is based on continued
funding.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree
or education/experience equivalency preferably in public relations,
journalism or related field.
Experience:
Two to three years
agency experience or similar experience in public relations, marketing,
relationship management, event planning, project management, writing
and media relations.
Skills:
Intermediate
to advanced Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer skills; proficiency
in prioritizing and managing multiple tasks; ability to think strategically;
demonstrated high standards of ethics and integrity; strong verbal presentation
and writing skills; ability to work effectively with internal support
staff, professionals in the field and suppliers; strong account management
skills, and the ability to work effectively on detail-oriented projects.
Environmental and Working Conditions:
Normal internal office environment. Travel estimated at approximately 10% (up to 2 -4 days or more in a month, depending upon scheduling requirements). The individual selected for this position must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to navigate areas of the country or abroad by using a map, or other direction methods.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to clearly and
concisely exchange ideas, facts, technical information and direction,
in person, by email and by telephone. Possess sound judgement
and make decisions independently when necessary. Physical requirements
include: sight, sitting for at least four hours per day, stooping, grasping/motor
dexterity skills, skills essential for successful communications, including
speaking and writing. Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced
environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate multi-market Torch Club partnerships involving national, regional and local Club offices. Conceptualize and coordinate all logistics from an event and PR perspective through completion, including annual evaluations.
- Manage special events nationwide working with local Club contacts to identify media outlets and secure local publicity.
- Generate ideas to garner publicity for Torch Club programs when possible. Develop press materials and work closely with local Clubs to identify publicity opportunities. Identify innovative and effective use of Torch Club program components for use as potential PR opportunities and to other Clubs to increase program awareness.
- Research current trends as it relates to the program, and identify media opportunities that may lead to national and/or local stories.
- Ensure clear and concise internal and external communications for local Clubs to use in driving home the importance of the Torch Club program and partnership, and the role it plays in reaching "beyond the walls"; assist in generating internal awareness and excitement around Torch Club and the impact it will have on kids.
- Serve as liaison and day-to-day contact with Torch Club program sponsor contacts, BGCA Lead Director, Public Relations and other BGCA departments to be a resource for information on individual Club activities and roll-out and implementation plans as related to the Torch Club program.
- Establish and maintain solid relationships with BGCA/Torch Club liaisons, and BGCA key media contacts and outlets.
- Effectively serve as a member of the Torch Club team and as a liaison to BGCA national staff for resources and information related to the program, including integrating Torch Club components into other BGCA programs.
- Work with selected Club sites to secure and maximize publicity opportunities in each community. Identify and develop local media contacts to garner publicity as indicated. Manage special events, such as Torch Summits nationwide, working with local Club contacts to ensure local publicity.
- Develop monthly update reports for partner, highlighting status of activities.
- Serve as point of contact, manage and track the PR portion of the Torch Club budget. Provide periodic reports to Lead Director, Public Relations and Senior Director, Public Relations.
- Develop new press materials and enhance current press materials as needed. Create and lead Webinars to assist Clubs in promoting the program.
- Research, read and maintain a database of contacts and noteworthy activities, including ¿success stories¿ in local Clubs related to the Torch Club program.
Duties and Responsibilities cont:
- Continue to identify opportunities to incorporate components into overall BGCA initiatives and projects, such as BE GREAT, National Boys & Girls Club Week and Boys & Girls Clubs Day for Kids.
- Assist with other duties/projects as assigned by Lead Director, Public Relations.
